LEADBELLY. Packin’ Trunk Blues. Leadbelly was born in northern Louisiana, and spent his early life performing there.  He also spent one of his stints in prison at the Angola Prison Farm, in Louisiana.  It was there John and Alan Lomax, who were there to record prison worksongs, discovered him.  They subsequently petitioned the Governor of Louisana, Oscar Allen, for Leadbelly’s early release.  Good work gentleman.   I mean, he was only in there for knifing a guy in a fight.
